There is a famous lyric in Marathi, written by Suresh Bhat for the movie Sinhasan (1979) and sung by Asha Bhosale, which talks of the need to rise to arms again, just as the promise of a new dawn suddenly descends into darkness. You fought hard to win that freedom, which promised liberty, equality and fraternity. When it was won, the dark forces usurped power and once again started shackling the masses with clever rhetoric and false promises. So it's time again to resume the struggle for freedom. It's 2019 and the dark forces of majority authoritarianism have gathered to threaten the unity of our great country. It is time to stand up and state clearly our claim to the great heritage of unity in diversity that has been preserved, promoted and passed on over millennia to us. This blog thus stands for unity in diversity of India and Indians, democracy, brotherhood and equality. It opposes every form of divisiveness, dictatorship, discrimination and obscurantism.
